Gretchen Louise Jack

January 27, 1939 — April 6, 2016

Gretchen Louise Jack, born January 27, 1939, died April 6, 2016. She passed away peacefully in her sleep from complications with pneumonia at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston. She was the daughter of James Jack and Leaffa Riddle Jack, both deceased. She grew up in Sharples and graduated from Sharples High School in the Class of 1957. She attended West Virginia University and the Charleston School of Commerce. She was employed for 22 years at Bowles, McDavid, Graff and Love Attorneys-At- Law, and for 23 years at the West Virginia Department of Transportation and lived in Charleston.

During her teen years she played the piano at the Clothier Presbyterian Church which her family attended. Some of her more enjoyable moments were spent accompanying her friends in song around the family piano. She loved to travel, eat at fine restaurants, and made a pilgrimage to Tamarack each year. She was a 43 year member of Secretarial Organization, Alpha IOTA Sorority. She loved Persian cats, her Honda and was never without a newspaper. She inherited her mother’s passive gene and was a friend of everyone.

Gretchen never married and is survived by twin brother James in Tempe, Arizona. She suffered an illness that forced her to retire in 2013 and has lived at Quarry Manor and Charleston Gardens Assisted Living Facilities since then where she has made many new friends. We will surely miss this congenial lady.

Memorial contributions should be made to the Clothier Presbyterian Church.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 13 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with the Rev. Dr. Charles Ferguson and the Rev. Dr. Gary Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, Madison, WV.

Visitation will be from noon until service time.
