Hazel Maxine Turner

August 18, 1919 — January 11, 2018

Hazel M. Turner at the age of 98 went to be with her Lord January 11, 2018, after suffering a stroke. She was lovingly taken care of at Hospice House, South Charleston, WV.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years William D. Turner and her parents; L.C. and Nora Stollings. She was born at Ottawa,WV August 18,1919. She was the last in our family of three sisters and four brothers.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Shielia Beary of Tornado, WV with whom she resided the last 4 ½ years, one step-grandson Michael Beary of Poca, WV. She had many nieces and nephews to numerous to name. She had a host of friends she dearly loved.
Hazel was a long time member of Clothier Presbyterian Church, where she was active many years. She loved quilting with the ladies of the church and was still sewing quilt squares right before her stroke.
Hazel decided to start college along with her sister Ruth at the age of 40. They drove to Morris Harvey and received their degree. They both taught at Spruce Grade School at Sharples, WV. Hazel taught second grade for 17 ½ years.
The service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV with Rev. Charles Ferguson and Gary Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in Boone Memorial Park, Madison.
Friends may one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers donation can be made to Clothier Presbyterian Church, Clothier, WV 25047 or Kanawha Animal Shelter, Charleston, WV. A special thank you to all who visited and was so kind in any way.
