Hazel “Maxine” Williams is on a journey to meet with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Maxine died April 3, 2016 at the age of 94. She was born at Foster on June 29, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Pearl Smith. She was married to Ray C. Williams for 53 years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; son, Raymond; brothers, Robert Smith; and sisters, Mami Javins, Ruby Miller and Virginia Miller.
Her family was her pride of life, Raymond (deceased) and Judy Williams, Rose Ann (Darrell) Cox, Jessica, Elizabeth (Raven and Malcom), Joyce (Slim) Stull and Tricia Russell (Ciara), Barbara and Bill (deceased) Woodruff, Greg and Sonia Woodruff and Kimberly and Danny Workman (Megan and Miranda), Stanley and Linda Williams, Steve and Cristy Williams, (Tyler, Nate, Ashley and Lauren) and Scott Williams; Harold and Sharon Williams, David Williams (Austin), Scott and Karin Williams (Kaytlin and Cameron), Margaret and Kenneth McCale, Jason McCale, Kristi and Jeremy Nestor (Kayla, Katelyn and Karoline), Anna and Terry Keffer, Magge Keffer (Izayah); and a host of many nephews, nieces and cousins. Maxine was a mother to her children plus others she called “her own”.
She was employed by the Boone County Board of Education as a cook and custodian at Foster Grade School for 21 years. While there, she was awarded a Life Time Membership Award for the PTA for membership and volunteer work. She was a 4-H Club Leader in the 1950’s and 1960’s for the Foster Boosters. She earned her 4-H Leadership Pin. She took her 4-H’ers to Camp each summer. Maxine was an active member of the Boone County Service Personnel Association. She was the treasurer of the association for many years. After retirement she joined the Boone County Association of Retired School Employees. Maxine was best known for the beautiful quilts that she made and her fine stitching. Other hobbies included sewing, crocheting and a green thumb in flower gardening. She also liked to work in the garden and canning fresh fruits and vegetables.
Many thanks to her caregivers, Sandra Bartley and Brenda Buzzard, the CAMC Memorial SV-IMC Unit and staff, Hubbard Hospice House, West and the love and support of her church family at the Rock Creek Church of Christ at Foster.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 6 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Minister Gary Durham officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, Madison.
