It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Helena Hoskinson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed this world on March 2, 2025, at the age of 91, in Clayton, Delaware, due to natural causes. Born on March 21, 1933, in Lincoln County, West Virginia, Helena’s life was a testament to generosity, kindness, and unwavering love.
Helena was the cherished daughter of Melvin and Mary Mullins. She grew up in the beautiful landscapes of West Virginia, where her gentle spirit and kind heart began to shine. In 1961, she married Fred L. Hoskinson in Lincoln County, and together they relocated to Clayton, Delaware, where they built a loving home and a lifetime of memories.
As a dedicated supervisor at Leads/Harris Sewing Manufacturer in Smyrna, Delaware, Helena balanced her career with her passions and family life. She was known for her work ethic and her ability to inspire those around her. After retirement, Helena devoted herself to her family and loved ones, embodying the values of compassion and support that she held dear.
Helena attended the Full Gospel Church in Clayton,De. where she found joy in worship and fellowship. Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting, knitting, and participating in Bible study, pursuits that brought her immense joy and allowed her to share her talents with others. Her green thumb was evident in the beautiful flowers and vegetables she nurtured in her garden, and her handcrafted items brought warmth to many family gatherings.
A devoted mother, Helena faced profound loss with grace. She was preceded in death by her son, Keith Aliff, her daughter, Kim McGinnis, and her sisters, Mildred Price and Ladena Flemmings. Though heartbroken by these losses, Helena's spirit remained unbroken, and she continued to be a pillar of strength for her family.
Helena is survived by her loving siblings, Polly Clark, Ralph (Sue) Mullins, and Imogene (Cebert) Shelton, who will forever cherish the memories they created together. She was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Charles Emerson of Clayton,De, Autumn (Vince) Baxter of Millington, MD, Desiray (Evan) Rhodes of Millington, MD, Courtney Elborn of Chestertown, MD, Shannon (John) Hobbs of Milton, WV, and Adam Aliff of Hamlin, WV.
Helena was also a doting great-grandmother to eleven great-grandchildren, Skylar Moyer, Chayse Baxter, Steel Rhodes, Dylan Elborn, Gracie Elborn, Waylon Fletcher, John Hobbs IV, Miranda-Kylee Hobbs, Wyatt Hobbs, Adam Aliff jr, Aliza Aliff and six great-great-grandchildren, Lane Moyer, Colsen Moyer, Beau Elborn, Stetson Rhodes, Chanelle Hobbs, and Baron Brigner each of whom held a special place in her heart.
With her gentle and compassionate nature, Helena touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege to know her. She will be remembered for her warmth, her unwavering support, and her ability to make everyone feel loved and valued.
As we celebrate Helena’s life, we find comfort in the countless memories of laughter, love, and support she shared with us. She leaves behind a host of friends and loved ones who will carry her legacy forward through the kindness and compassion she instilled in all of us.
A service to honor and celebrate Helena’s life will be held 2:00pm at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home Saturday March 8, 2025 with graveside following at Green Valley Cemetery, Branchland, WV. A visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in Helena's memory to a charity of your choice, continuing her tradition of giving and love.
Rest in peace, Helena. You will be missed deeply, but your spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
