Hershel Prince, Jr., 69 of Uneeda, WV went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 9, 2017.
He was born September 29, 1948 in Stowe, WV to the late Hershel, Sr. and Jewel Virginia Prince. He was a 1966 graduate of Scott High School, and an Army Veteran serving 27 months in Vietnam with the 65th Engineering Battalion in the 25th Infantry. He was a retired coal miner of 33 years.
Hershel enjoyed camping and fishing at East Lynn Lake during the summers, and hunting in the fall. He enjoyed being a part of activities with his grandchildren such as having lunch with them at school, attending school programs, and watching them participate in their athletic events. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and most importantly God with all of his heart. Hershel loved life and always had a smile for everyone he encountered. He is loved by many and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia Ann Gibson and Dora Ruth Bias.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Helen Elizabeth Prince; sons, Brian (Shirley) Prince of Kershaw, SC and Jamie (Jaime Lynn) Prince of Foster, WV; daughter, Michelle (David) Harris of Uneeda, WV. He had six grandchildren, Alexander Scott Prince, Andrew Allen Prince, Alyssa Brooke Harris, Kristian Lynn Prince, Ian James Prince, and Kershaw Reese Prince. He had one great-grandson, Ethan Scott Prince. He had two step-grandchildren, Cindy and Matt Wrenn; and one step-great-granddaughter, Sarah Wrenn. Surviving siblings are brothers, Richard (Kathy) Prince, Ricky (Diane) Prince, Michael Prince, and William “Billy” Prince; and a sister, Sandra (Sonny) Hager. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Handley’s Funeral Home, Danville with Ronnie Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Linville-Egnor Cemetery, Parsoner, WV with full military honors given by VFW Post 5578 .
Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. for family, and 1:00 p.m. for friends, on Saturday until service time.
