Homer Lee Backus, 80, of South Madison, WV went home to be with the Lord at his home Sunday, May 1, 2016.
He was a retired employee of Hobet 21 Mining and was a member of the UMWA. He was a member of the Greenview Church of Christ where he tried to help in any way. For the past months all he would ask was to go home to the Lord and mom.
Homer was preceded in death by his loving wife Magalene; one son Christopher; one grandson Joseph; one granddaughter, Crystal; and one sister Edith Smith.
He is survived by his two daughters and two sons, Retha (C.B.) of Blair, Trena Epling (Scott) of South Madison, and Ricky and Ronald Backus of Greenview; one sister, Linda (Cecil) Deane of Quinton, VA; and one very special friend, Larry Hager. Survivors also include his six grandchildren, Johnny Grimmett, Ricky Jr., Tawyna, Stacy, Ronald Jr. Backus and Christopher Epling; three great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Brody and Cheyene Grimmett; seven great-great-grandchildren, Taylor, Mikayla, Jayden, Raylee, Bryson, Olivia Joe and Mason Backus; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.
His family and grandchildren could always put a smile on his face. But what he wanted most was to go “home” with the Lord.
The family would like to give a big thank you to Hospice, you all were the best and he loved you all; also caregivers of Loved Ones, Sabrinia and Taryn Lambert.
