Ira Dolin, Jr.,94 , of Danville formerly of Camp Creek went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at his home in Danville after a short illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Maudie Dolin of Camp Creek; his brother, Richard Ford Dolin; and daughter, Laura Jean Dolin.
Ira was a decorated World War II veteran receiving several medals, two of which include, the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was also a lifetime member of Daniel Boone VFW Post #5578. Ira was active choir director and warrior for God most all of his life. He was a member of Freedom Community Church in Lincoln County.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Delores Jean Dolin; six sons, Dennis (Jane) of Caryville, TN, Ira E.(Brenda) of Dandridge, TN, John (Charlene) of Drawdy, Charles (Cathy) of Camp Creek, Jackson(Teresa) of Nellis and Ronald (Erika) of Madison; three daughters, Patricia (Mike) Mace of Charleston, Dora (Clarence) Craigo of Griffithsville and Sallie (Anthony) Starkey of Danville; a sister, Eliza B. McGuire of Lancaster CA; 22 grandchildren, Dreama, Brian(Letty), David, Kevin (Ruth), Marion(Paul), Andy, Dennie, Benton, Jeremiah, Amanda (Lewis), Matthew, Michael(Ashley), Melissa (Randy), Gloria, Dustin, Rachael(Andrew), Timmy, Tony, Kristen, Leicia, Jackson and Nisa; 25 great- grandchildren; three special nephews, Jimmy Wayne (Linda) Kessinger of Forrest City, NC, Richard (Dick) Dolin of Colorado Springs, CO and Eugene McGuire of Rosamond, CA; and special nieces, nephews, relatives and a host of friends.
A special thank you to Hospice Care, Boone County Office; especially Mary, Libby, Jenny, Heather and Sharon; also his family physician, Dr. Howard Lafferty and nurse, Sharelle; Veterans Administration; Dr.Samuel Carroll and staff.
The family invites friends to celebrate Ira’s life 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV with the Rev. Joe Lane, pastor of Monclo Freewill Baptist Church, Sharples, WV officiating and with special words from Diann Kish. Singing graciously provided by Ronald and Nikki Egnor and Buddy and Abby McClure. Burial will follow in Boone Memorial Park, Madison with military graveside rites performed by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578, Madison, WV.
Family and friends may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
