Jackie Lee Dickson, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Monday, June 18, 2018 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, WV. He was born January 22, 1937 in Charleston, WV.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Hester Dickson; and stepbrother Ernest Hopper.
He was a graduate of Scott High School Class of 1956. He served two tours of the Vietnam War and retired at the rank of Captain in the United States Army. He was a member of the Army National Guard. He was a member of Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578. He was a Private Investigator, Deputy Sheriff and Chief of Police for Madison, WV. He retired as a DEA Agent in Charleston, WV. He was a member of the Madison United Methodist Church where he served with his loving wife with the children's choir for 31 years. He loved to play golf, fish, working in his garden and sitting in the swing with Marvagene (the one they sat in when they were teenagers) and feeding the birds. He loved spending time with his family more than anything.
He is survived by the love of his life of 57 years, Marvagene Nelson Dickson; five children, Tayna Blake (John) of Chesepeake, VA, Laura Dickson of Chesepeake, VA, Jackie Kuhn (Kenny) of Matthews, NC, Mark Dickson (Tracey) of South Charleston, WV, and Jon Dickson (April) of South Charleston, WV; nine grandchildren, Scott Blake (Megan) of Washington, DC, Kristen Strain (Brianna) of Pottstown, PA, Ryan Blake of Annandale, VA. Ashley Daniels (Kevin) of Matthews, NC, Samantha Kuhn (Kenny Wilson) of Indian Trail, NC, Chelsea and Michael Lore of South Charleston, WV, Madison and Cooper Dickson of South Charleston, WV; and four great grandchildren, Maeve and Arley Strain, Jayden and Ayana Daniels.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the doctors and staff in the ICU department of St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, WV for all the care and compassion they provided to us.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Monday, July 16 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville with the Rev. Rick Swearengin officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
