Jackie “Jack” D. Berry, 62, of Yawkey, WV passed away suddenly on Monday, October 5, 2020.
Jack was born on October 15, 1957 in Madison, WV to Sylman and Susie Berry. He received his bachelors in 1983 from Morris Harvey College. For the last 5 years, Jack enjoyed working for the West Virginia State Treasurer’s Office as the Deputy Treasurer of the WV Retirement Plus Program. He delighted in taking long car rides searching for antiques with his beloved wife, Christa. Jack adored his three daughters tremendously and often shared his love of gardening and farming with them. Always the first to offer help, Jack was selfless with his time and always found a way to figure things out for those he loved. He had a soft spot for stray animals that would turn up at his farm: dogs, cats, donkeys and a bull, all found sanctuary on his land. Jack loved his little piece of heaven in Yawkey and was forever thankful to live so close to his friends and family.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Sylman and Susie Berry of Turtle Creek, WV.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Christa Berry of Yawkey; daughters Monika Berry (Sean Robinson) of Yawkey, Whitney Berry (Dustin White) of Yawkey and Rebecca Sutton of Nitro; bonus son TJ Waters of Drawdy; granddaughter Charli Waters of Drawdy; brothers Jimmy Berry of Alum Creek and Bobby (Dawn) Berry of Cedar Bluff, VA. Nephews Chris (Megan) Berry and Wes (Emily) Berry; and nieces Dr. Hunter Berry (Cedar Bluff, VA) and Kelsey Berry (Cedar Bluff, VA); along with a host of extended family and a multitude of amazing friends.
Due to pandemic restrictions, a graveside service will be held on October 13, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Orchard Hill Memorial Gardens. For everyone’s safety, CDC guidelines will be observed with masks and social distancing encouraged.
Should friends desire, contributions may be made in his memory to the Lincoln County High School Future Farmers of America.
