James L. Adkins, 87, of Van, WV departed from this life at Boone Memorial Hospital on September 2, 2013. He was born on January 28, 1926 and was a devoted member of Bigson Freewill Baptist Church for many years.
He served in the Army in Japan. He was also retired from Eastern Associated Coal where he worked as a coal miner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Marie Adkins; and daughter, Mary Katherine Baldwin.
He is survived by his son, Donald and Kaye Adkins, daughter, Margaret and Glen Workman, daughter, Gaye and Gary Baisden; son-in-law, Danny Baldwin; brothers and sisters Lee (Betty) Adkins of Revina Ohio, Danny (Khongsin) Adkins of Thailand, Merrill Moore of Clothier, WV and Beaulah Harris of Clothier, WV; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2013 at Bigson Freewill Baptist Church with Lloyd Workman, Anthony Giglio and Jack Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Park, Danville with military graveside rites performed by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578 Madison, WV.
