James “French” Bailey, 100, of Danville went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 20, 2016. He was born in Buckhannon, WV on January 29, 1916 to the late Jesse and Nellie Bailey. Preceding him in death was his wife of 50 years, Alma “Frances” Bailey; infant daughter, Georgia Ann; brothers, Clyde and Paul; sisters, Genevieve and June; and great-great-grandson Sabastian.
French was a WWII and Korean War Veteran having served in the US Army. He was a member of the Beni Kedem Temple serving as President of the Patrol, member of the Scottish Rite, Life member of South Charleston Lions Club where he served as past President, member of the Moose Lodge, Elks Club and American Legion, and a Master Mason of Lodge #168 South Charleston. He retired from G.C. Murphy Company as General Manager with 50 years of service. He served as General Manager in Buckhannon, WV, Logan WV, Point Pleasant, WV, Ashland, KY and South Charleston, WV. He enjoyed dancing, golfing, bowling and painting.
He is survived by his son, Rev. Bill and Deleena Bailey of Danville, WV; grandsons, William and Katherine Bailey of Bunker Hill, WV and James and Candace Bailey of Virginia; granddaughter, Danielle and Chad Miller of Sissonville, WV; great-granddaughter, Alisha Cooper of Logan, WV; great-grandsons, Bryce and Brantley Miller of Sissonville, WV; great-great-grandchildren, Hailey Gudis, Jason Akers, Gavin Belt, Jayden Cooper and X’ander Frye; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dignity Hospice, Emilia, Denise, Ashley and Brian; Boone Memorial Hospital nursing staff; and Dr. James E. Stollings.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 23 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with the Rev. Roger McCauley and the Rev. Rick Swearengin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
In keeping with his wishes French will be cremated after the service and laid to rest at a later date with his wife Frances at Tyler Mountain Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that contributions t be made to Dignity Hospice or Six Mile United Methodist Church.
