James “JimDick” Dickerson went home to be with his heavenly father on December 7, 2013. He was born in Dorothy, WV to the late Clarence and Elsie Dickerson.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Ben and Harry; and four sisters, Jean, Ruth, Virginia and Mary.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Diane; son, Keith and wife Brandi of Fort Wayne, IN; daughter, Mandy and husband Robert (Tater) Moore of Bob White, WV; and granddaughters, Haylee, Jalyn, Emily, Bethany and Jenna. Special nephew who he loved and raised as a son, Michael White and wife Dawn of Sumerco and their sons Colton and Dustin; brother, Clarence “Junior” Dickerson of KY; and sister, Lynn and husband Karl Ed of Foster.

He was a coal miner for 27 years, retired from Peabody Coal Company, and he was a member of the UMWA Local 9177. A member of Cazy Freewill Baptist Church, an Air Force Vietnam Veteran and a member of Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578, Madison, WV.

In May the friends and family of Jim gathered together for a celebration of life. Over 200 people showed up for friends, fellowship and food. Jim was so overwhelmed that he had made an impression on so many people’s lives. We are so grateful that our community stepped up in so many ways. The family would like to send a special Thank You to Kanawha Hospice, nurse Sallie Starkey, social worker Libby Smith and Dr. Boggess and to everyone that stopped in to say “Hi”, sent a card or note, dropped off food or said a small prayer.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cazy Freewill Baptist Church, Cazy, WV in James’ memory.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Cazy Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Price, Mike Allen and the Rev. Gary Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, Madison.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
