James Gilbert, 86, of West Hamlin, WV was born in Logan County on September 1, 1931. He served our country in the Army during the Korean War. He was a coal miner and retired from Connor's Steel and Steele of WV.
He was a resident of the Lincoln Nursing and Rehab Center in Hamlin, WV for 3 1/2 years. He passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 after a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Late Claude and Anabelle Gilbert, his first wife: Pauline Gilbert, and second wife of 30 years: Dorothy E Gilbert. One grandson, brothers; Claude Gilbert Jr. (Margaret), Robert (Bob) Gilbert, William Gilbert, and Pete Rosevelt Gilbert, sisters; Ideamay Gilbert Tallarico (James), Laura Jane Harvey (David), Dorothy Howard and husband, Janet H. Brow, and Nida Lou, a step daughter: Oneida Toppins, and sons-n-law: Buddy Nelson, Gene Arbaugh, and Ricky Osborne.
He is survived by 2 daughters: Netra Gilbert and Nancy Osborne, 4 step daughters: Rita Arbaugh, Obita Nelson, Rena Chaney (Ruben Chaney), Renee' Fulks (Bill Fulks), 1 step son: Gary Adkins (Debbie Adkins), 1 son-n-law: Barry Toppins; one sister Betty Montgomery (Bobby), and one brother Jerry Paul Gilbert He has 18 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and loved ones.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00pm Friday, Jan. 12, 2017 at McGhee Handley Funeral Home West Hamlin with Thomas Stowers officiating. Burial will follow in Warrick Cemetery Branchland. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
