James Edward Justice

James Edward “Jimmy” Justice of Madison, WV passed away peacefully on November 5, 2023 at Boone Memorial Hospital at the age of 90.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Janet; his parents, Arthur and Grace Holstein Justice; and his siblings, Arthur Justice, Harold Justice, Louise Dillion and Dorothy Perry.

Jimmy is survived by his children, Mark Justice (Crystal) of Danville, John Justice of Hagerstown, MD and Mary Beth Thaxton (John) of Savanna, GA; grandchildren, Wesley Justice of Danville, Jay Justice (Kayla) of Roscoe, Iowa, and Johannah Lara (Francisco) of Gaithersburg, MD; great grandchildren, Mila, Jaxon and Colton Justice and Isiah Lara; his brother, Gary Justice of Dunbar; several nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces and great-great nephews.

Jimmy was a hardworking man who loved his family.  He took pride in his home, his yard, and keeping his car clean.  He was a veteran of the US Army.  Jimmy was also a retired coal miner for Patriot Coal and was a member of the UMWA Local 781.  After moving to Madison, he spent most of his time doing yard work for many of his neighbors and friends in the area.  He enjoyed his time with his family.  The most cherished memories were cheering on the Mountaineers.  Jimmy was a member of Madison Baptist Church and loved the church family around him.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bob Adkins and his wife Jane and Dr. Ron Stollings for the care they have provided for Jimmy.  They would also like to thank the doctors and staff of Boone Memorial Hospital for the support and kindness in Jimmy’s last days.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV with Pastor Jim Butcher officiating.  Entombment will follow in Memory Gardens with military graveside rites performed by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578 of Madison, WV.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. on Wednesday until service time at the funeral home.
