James Matthews, 80, of Foster went to be with the Lord February 3, 2016 after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Daisy Matthews; and his first wife, Virginia (Jenny McCormick).
He was a humble Christian and a faithful member of West Madison Independent Baptist Church and a member of Masonic Lodge of Whitesville. He was a retired surface mine inspector.
He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Marcine; children, Debbie (Larry) Greene, Jimmy (Sheri) , Kim (Kevin) Adkins, B.R. Rice and Shellee (Jason) Moore; grandchildren, Billy (Whittney) Myers, Valerie (David) Ward, Stephen(Courtney) Matthews, Sonya ( Kyle) Breeden, Tristan, Cole, Olivia and Chellsy; six great-grandchildren, Katelynn Myers, Kameron, Georgia Kate, Jackson James, Olivia and Savannah; one brother, David “Tubby” (Donna) Matthews; one sister, Pamela (Eddie) Pridemore; four nieces and nephews; six great nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins, friends and church family.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at West Madison Independent Baptist Church with Pastor James Browning and Fred Connery officiating. Burial will follow in Drawdy Cemetery, Peytona, with Masonic graveside rites.
Friends may call from noon until service time at the church.
