James Steven (Steve) Nelson, 61, of Madison gained his wings May, 7 2016.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and JoAnn Nelson, brothers, Alan and Jerry Nelson, and his daughter Nicole.
He was a man of many trades. He worked in the coal mine, was a painter, mechanic, and home remodeling. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and served a 4 year term.
He was a proud, loving and devoted father. He was a loyal and compassionate husband to his wife of 47 years. He was an affectionate and supportive grandfather and great grandfather to his 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Steve lived his life for his family and friends. He was devoted to the joy and happiness of others. A self made, self sacrificing man. He always gave more than he asked for. He made sure he put everyone else before himself. He never met a stranger and always greeted people with an open heart and open arms. He had a passion for cars and motorcycles as well as fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Candy Nelson, of Madison. His daughters, Heather Jo of Madison and Stephanie Dawn of Marshville N.C. Seven grandchildren, Dakota-Sky, Courtney Paige, Kayla Marie, Tyler, Mitchell, Joseph, and Dalton and 3 great grandchildren, Alyssa, Leighton, and Arabella.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
