James “J.D.” Peters, 84, of Wharton passed away on March 19, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born January 11, 1931 in Eunice, WV and was a son of the late Alma and Ted Peters. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Peters; and brother-in-law, Frank Jarrell.
He was a coalminer, proud member of the UMWA for forty and a half years, and a former president of Local 781 for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR and WVU sports. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 61 ½ years, Patricia “Pat” Peters; and his precious cat, Callie; brother, Noel Peters; sisters, Helena Jarrell; sister-in-law Alice Peters; children, Donna (Johnny) Rowe, Doug Peters, Donnie (Susan) Peters, Deanna (Dayman) Harvey and Darla (Robert) Butler; grandchildren, Stephanie Cook, Thomas Rowe, Brittany Peters, Matthew Harvey, Caitlin Peters, Megan Smith, Kyle Harvey and Mackenzie Butler; and great-grandchildren, Nathan Adkins, Addison and Olivia Rowe and Landon and Emily Harvey.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2015 in Family Gardens, Madison.
Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. prior to the service at Handley Funeral Home, Danville.
