James Ervin “Jiggs” Sutphin, 74, of Julian, WV passed away October 20, 2016 at his home. He was born August 13, 1942 at Greenview, WV and was a son of the late John Henry and Nancy Elkins Sutphin.
He was an electrician for Sharples Coal Mines and was a member of the UMWA Local 17. He was a veteran of the US Army and a member of the Danville Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Edana Sue Pauley Sutphin; sons, James L., David W. and Charles R. Sutphin all of Julian; brother, William Sutphin of Massillon, Ohio; sister, Roselyn Doss of Danville; four grandchildren, Lindsey Sutphin, David Sutphin II, Katylin Sutphin and Charles Sutphin II; four great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jayce, Dahlia and Gwendolyn; and a host of family and friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday, October 24 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Evangelist Mark Wheatley officiating. Burial will follow in Boone Memorial Park, Madison with military graveside rites performed by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578, Madison, West Virginia.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
