Janet Louise (Banks) Grant the seventh child of Ernest and Josephine “Tut” Banks, born on January 9, 1947 in beautiful downtown Madison, delivered by Dr. Arthur Glover at the Glover Clinic passed way on September 7, 2014 at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, WV.
Her education began with her oldest brother, Fred taking her to get her shots so she could go to school. She attended Carver Grade and High School (an all Black School, because they were not integrated as of yet) for grades 1 – 3. She then attended after integrations in grades 4-8 and grades 9-12 with graduation at Scott High School in 1964. She later took some college classes through SWVCC. She retired from the Boone County School System in 2005 with 32 years of service and had presently worked as job coach to a special young man named Brian at Boone Memorial Hospital three days a week. She was a member of Maranatha Bible Baptist where Rev. Shawn P. Woods is the Pastor, but Jesus Christ was her Shepherd, Leader and Guide. One of her favorite songs says, “In my Father’s House there are many mansions, and in her own words she said, and one of them belongs to me.” It was her prayer and heart’s desire that all her family and friends have a mansion because she wanted all of them to be together IN HEAVEN. Her message, I LOVE ALL OF YOU.
She was blessed with three wonderful children, Stephanie Lynn, Anita Louise and Joseph Martin; eight grandchildren, Elliot (son of Stephanie), Jeremy, Eric, Donavon, Coby and Matthew (sons of Anita) and Jasmine and Karman (daughters of Joseph); two great-grandchildren, Candence and Madison (daughters of Elliot and Tiffany Wilson Grant).
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2014 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Pastor Shawn P. Woods officiating. Burial will be in Family Gardens, Madison.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
