Jerry D. Elkins

Jerry D. Elkins, 86, of Danville, WV passed to his Heavenly home on December 27, 2023.  Jerry was born on October 29, 1937 to the late William Allen and Ruth Faye Barker Elkins. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by the love of his life Meredith Jean Dotson Elkins.

He is survived by his son J.D. Elkins II and his wife Valerie Ann Craddock Elkins, and the lights of his later years, his two grandsons William Andrew and Nicklaus Edward all of Rock Creek. Jerry had a host of surviving cousins, in-laws, and friends throughout the US.

Jerry accepted Christ into his life in February 1978. As a born-again Christian, he later became a Member of the Laurel City Free Will Baptist Church where he was a faithful servant to the Lord. His working career encompassed many roles within the Mining Industry of Boone, Logan, and Kanawha Counties WV concluding in 1999 as a retiree of Arch Coal, Inc. Jerry was a 32° Free Mason and 50+ year Member of the O’Dell Masonic Lodge #115. He was a past Member of the WVU Alumni & Friends Boone County Chapter and enjoyed attending most every Mountaineer home football game over the span of three decades.

The Elkins family extends its gratitude for the care and comfort Jerry received from BMH, Communicare Hillcrest, and Hospice Care of WV Administrators, Physicians, and Staff.

Service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, December 30 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville with Pastor Tony Vance officiating and Deacon Bradley Goodwin with scripture. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens, Low Gap.
