Jewell Adkins

Jewell (Miller) Adkins, 90, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday, June 16^th, 2023 in Lexington, Ky.   She was the widow of Boyd Alton Adkins, sharing 69 happy years of marriage.

Born and raised in Spurlockville, WV, she was the daughter of the late Leander and Hermie Miller.  She and Boyd moved to Flatwoods, Ky in the early 60’s where Jewell earned her Cosmetology license, owning and operating a successful hair salon for over 25 years.  After both retired, Jewell and Boyd returned to WV to enjoy another 10 years in the mountains that they loved before moving to Lexington, Ky to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Jewell was known to be excellent cook who also enjoyed travel (visiting all 50 US states), vegetable gardening & canning, growing beautiful flowers, landscape painting and a variety of other hobbies.  She also enjoyed playing games and cards with family and friends. Having taught 4 generations to play her favorite card game, she will always be remembered for her love of a good-natured competitive game of Canasta!  Mostly, she will be remembered for her warm heart and unconditional love of family.

She is survived by her daughter: Jill Kirk (Van); daughter-in-law: Becky Adkins; her beloved grandchildren: Jesse Kirk (Kelley), Bill Kirk, Bethany Varner (Eric); her pride and joy great-grandchildren: Logan, Myles, Nolan, Grant; like a daughter: Manminth Chahil; brother-in-law: Cecil Adkins (Mitzi); sister-in-law: (Ginny Miller); and Kay Miller, Lisa Lovejoy and a host of surviving nieces and nephews.  Jewell was preceded in death by her spouse: Boyd Alton Adkins; son: Roger Adkins; brothers: Arthur & Kenneth Miller; sister: Violet Burns (Stanley); father/mother-in-law: Denny Adkins (Della);  brother-in-laws: Paul Adkins (Marcel), Shelby Adkins (Birdie), Jerry Adkins; sister-in-laws: Marlene Thornburg (Claud), Janet Rinaldi (Henry), Mona Hayes (Rile).

Memorial services will be held in the fall at the Adkins/Hill family cemetery in Lincoln County, WV.
