Jewell Marie Nichols 97 of Bald Knob (Greenwood), Boone County passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016. Jewell was born December 8, 1918 at Sandy Hook (Elliot Co.) Kentucky. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Amanda Lemaster Conn of Sandy Hook, Kentucky.
Jewell’s greatest pleasure was her family and cooking and baking for them. She adored animals, especially her dogs and cats. Jewell was known to many as Granny or Ms. Nichols. As is her name, she was truly a precious Jewel. She was of the protestant faith and attended Greenwood Church of God and Browns Branch Baptist Church.
Jewell was known throughout the community and state for her untiring work of church fellowship. She was a person of the people and loved everyone. Her main goal in life was to serve her God and make Heaven her eternal home. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Harlis Nichols and her seven brothers, one daughter in law, one granddaughter, 3 great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter.
Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Anna Darlene Massey, Geraldine Nichols and Barbara (Buddy) Harvey all of Greenwood, five sons; Thomas(Garnet) Nichols, David (Janice) Nichols both of Barrett, Delbert (Judy) Nichols of Greenwood, Shelvy ( Willa Mae) Nichols of Alum Creek, and Coy R. Nichols of Peterstown, WV; 17 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren and a host of friends.
Service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21, Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Rev. Phil Roe officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, Madison.
Pallbearers are Cody Douglas, Thomas (Tom Tom) Nichols, Bruce Nichols, Travis Harvey, Dusty Harvey, Steve Massey, and Derrick Massey. Honorary pallbearers, Nicholas Green, Braden White, Brandon Nichols, Scott Poore, Mark Nichols and Lucas Nichols.
