Jimmie “Lovell” Smith Sr. was born on February 23, 1936 at Jeffrey, WV and left to be with his Lord on August 17, 2018. Lovell attended Jeffrey Grade School and attended Scott High School. He was married on January 31, 1953 to Yvonne “Bonnie” Morgan.
Lovell moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1952 and started working at Lindsey Wire Co. He later returned back to WV with his family in 1969 where he was in partnership and later owned his own business. He also worked for the Boone County Board of Education.
Lovell gave his heart to the Lord in 1958 and soon started his ministry. God provided greatly in his ministry of singing with many groups and singers, traveling all over the states, singing God’s love and mercy. He was a music minister in Cleveland, Ohio, as well as WV. No one ever had any more love for what they did than him.
Lovell was a member of the Prayer Connection Lighthouse in Danville, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents J.R. and Opal Smith; his brother, Douglas Hayes; and his sisters, Sue Napier and Anna Chandler.
He leaves behind his wife, the love of his life for 65 years, Bonnie; his son, Jimmie Jr. and Drusilla; his daughter, Drema and Charles Miller; his four grandchildren, Shadora Lovejoy (Craig), Jamie Blakely (Michael), T.J. Miller, Jimmie III Smith (Tabitha) and Joshua Miller (Jennifer); his great-grandchildren, Makayla Blakely, Zachary Blakely, Addison Smith, Ayden Smith, Bryson Miller, Savannah Miller and Sullivan Miller; his sister, Carol Bell (Gene); his brother, Jack Smith (Vickie); a host of nieces, nephews and many friends; also his much loved Pastor and friend, Mark and Tressie Meeker.
A Celebration of Life service will be 2 p.m. Monday, August 20 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Pastor Mark Meeker and Jeff Mosteller officiating. Burial will follow in Family Gardens, Madison.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
