John Gerard Brooks
March 28, 1943 — December 11, 2017
John Gerard Brooks Sr. of Foster, WV, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, December 11, 2017. John was born on March 28, 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts, he spent his youth there until the age of 12, while his remaining teen years were spent in Opalocka, Florida. He then graduated from Miami Norland High School in 1961.
John was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he met his wife Audrey while stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska.
John retired from Eastern Associated Coal Co. after twenty plus years. He remained in the Coal industry working for Peabody, Patriot, Asset Management and Millennium technical services. He worked as a Warehouse Inventory Clerk, Purchasing Agent and Preventative Maintenance.
John is preceded in death by his father Clarence Brooks, Mother Eileen Brooks and sister Arlene Clance Napoli.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years Audrey Myers Brooks, daughter Doreen Brooks Grillot, son John Gerard Brooks Jr. and his wife Meredith. Grandchildren Austin M. Thompson, Chance Scott Grillot and his girlfriend Kylie. Many nieces and nephew’s family and friends.
John enjoyed reading and did so daily, he loved playing cribbage with his family, listening to music and studying the bible. John was an avid sports fan and was especially dedicated to his beloved Boston Red Sox.
John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and friend to many. He loved and cared for his family and took pride in doing so.

“For we walk by faith not by sight we are confident I say and willing rather too be absent from the body and to be present with the lord.”
Johns remains will be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held in his honor on Friday, December 22nd , 2017 between the hours of 6pm and 8pm at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV. In lieu of flowers you may donate to the charity of your choice.
