John Clinton Runyon, 83, of Ripley, formerly of Hewett, departed this life on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at home following a short illness.
He was born on May 26, 1941 at Hewett, W to the late Marion Hook and Gredice Ball Runyon.
He was also preceded in death by brothers Franklin, Charles, and Paul Gene and his sister, Clarice.
He was a member of the UMWA.
John is survived by his wife of 58 ½ years, Shirley Ball Runyon, one son, James (Delta) Runyon of Milton; one daughter Robin (Robby) Ray with whom he made his home; 3 grandsons, Gabe Runyon of Frazier Bottom, Justin Layne of Barboursville, and Hunter (Victoria) Vance of Branchland; two great-grandsons, Isaac and Gunner Runyon of Frazier Bottom; two sisters, Carrie Garrett and Roseanne Runyon, both of Chapmanville; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He loved all the children in the family, but there were five that held a very special place in his heart, Hailie Ann White (my girl); Justin Cook (our boy); and Victoria, Kaitlynn, and Lindsey.
He enjoyed fishing and his four grand fur babies, Skippy, Harper, Tippy, and Gizmo.
Pallbearers will be James Ball, Jacob Spencer, Scotty Cook, Hunter Vance, Justin Layne, and Allen Aleshire.
John will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors. May he rest peacefully in eternal love.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV. Visitation to be held on Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Burial to follow in Memory Gardens, Madison, WV.
