John E. White (Johnny), 73, of Hamlin, WV went to be with the Lord on Tuesday May 9, 2017 at Cleveland Clinic Foundation surrounded by his family.
He was born August 8, 1943 in Charleston, WV. John was the son of the late Harold and Odessa White.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Sharon; two children John (Kim) White of Hamlin, Beth Ann White (Steve DiBlasi) of Charleston; two grandchildren Brenna and Bailee White which he adored and a special friend Edsel Hager.
Johnny graduated from Hamlin High School in 1961 and attended UCLA for law enforcement training. He along with his father Harold started White’s Plaza of Hamlin in 1961, with the first store being White’s Grocery. He along with his wife were the former owners of Hamlin Floral, Burger King, Pizza Inn and White’s NAPA. He served the Lord as a Deacon at Hamlin Baptist Church, having men’s breakfast, and meals for the church family and community. He was organizer of the 290th combat engineers winter reunion to honor his father and veterans. John served Lincoln County as an elected official as Sheriff and County Clerk.
He also served WV and his community by being on the South Western Community Action Board and LCOC board of directors. He was a WSAZ hometown hero. His most proud accomplishment was being a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Saturday May 13, 2017 at Hamlin Baptist Church, Hamlin, WV with Pastor James Caldwell and J.R. Shull. The burial will be in the Miller Cemetery, Hamlin, WV.
Viewing will be from 6pm to 8pm Friday at Handley Funeral Home, Hamlin, WV.
