Joseph Clarence Woodruff, 88, of Madison,WV passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016. He was born January 2, 1928 at Drawdy, WV and was a son of the late Joseph and Ethel Woodruff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Norman Woodruff, sisters Edith Woodruff and Beatrice Woodruff Halstead, brother Austin Woodruff and sisters Mae Woodruff Wood, Kathleen Woodruff Lemon, Emma Woodruff Holstein and Ruble Woodruff Cabell.
Joe was a member of the Madison Church of Christ, a Naval Veteran of WWII and a member of the United Mine Workers. He was joined in marriage with the love of his life and best friend Mary Virginia Price on February 7, 1948. Their loving devotion to each other was apparent to all who knew them. He was the devoted father of four children, nine grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. He was a lifetime avid camper who taught all of the children and grandchildren the proper fishing technique and enjoyed every minute of it.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Virginia Woodruff; children, Erma (Buddy) Williams, Brenda (Charles) Foster, Roger Woodruff and Randy (Teresa) Woodruff; nine grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, May 24, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday May 25.
