Joyce “Kay” Ferrell, 70, of Six Mile made the journey home to the Lord on Thursday, December 13, 2012 after a sudden illness. Her family helped usher her home while she took her final breaths.
She was born September 3, 1942 and was a daughter of the late Homer and Nina Ferrell. She was also preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Paul and Helen Ferrell; and her husband, Paul “Roger” Ferrell whom she loved with all her heart. During her lifetime she served as a United States postmaster from where she retired. She was a pillar of strength for her family. Her favorite place was her camp on the New River by the falls. She loved watching the sun set over the Florida Keys. One of her favorite past times was rooting for Mountaineer football.
She is survived by two sons, Roger “Scott” and Sally Ferrell and Gregory and Nancy Ferrell; her brother, Homer “Dewayne” Ferrell; and very special sister, Janet “Sue” Ferrell. She is also survived by grandchildren, Chrissy Ferrell (Josh Sheppard), Amanda (Justin) Chambers, David Ferrell and Stephen Ferrell; step-grandchild, Shannon (Randall) Michaels; and beautiful great-grandchildren, Zoey Ferrell Chambers and Arabella Ferrell; she was looking forward to meeting her newest great-granddaughter in April 2013; step-great-grandchildren, Maddy and Cody Michaels; Sue’s caregiver, Rosan Fox and Gladys; special friends, Sherry and Sally and all The River Rats; and many friends whom she cherished.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, December 16 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with the Rev. Roger McCauley officiating. Burial will follow in Baldwin’s Cemetery, Isom.
