Juel Jann Jarrell Pickens

Juel Jann Jarrell Pickens, age 86, of Bim went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 3, 2012.
She was born on September 8, 1926 and was a daughter of the late Lona Green Jarrell and Omar Jarrell. She was also preceded in death by her oldest brother, Oather Jarrell who gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country on December 24, 1944 in the Battle of the Bulge; and her youngest grandson, Kedron Setser who died on September 20, 2011.
She was a true born again child of God and served her Lord at Bible Baptist Church at Danville where she was a member. She graduated from Van High School and a business school in Charleston. She also graduated from Morris Harvey College with a teaching degree. She spent 21 years teaching children at Wharton Grade and Wharton Jr. High and also Van Grade School. Juel and Sam were very active in missions for many years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Samuel Maxwell Pickens III; two daughters, Maria (Danny) White of Palmares, Costa Rica where they have been missionaries almost 40 years and Madonna (David) Setser of Bim; older brother, Lyle Jarrell of Bobwhite; five grandchildren, Daphne (Francisco) Chavarria of Woodstock, Georgia, they have three daughters, Amy, Samantha and her twin Mindy, Jonathan (Tina) White of Palmares, Costa Rica, they have four daughters, Rachel, Rose, Jules and Natalie, Amber (Arthuro) Vargas of Palmares, Costa Rica, they have three daughters, Melissa and her twin Rebecca, Kattie and one son, Joey, Samuel (Neena) White also of Palmares, Costa Rica, they have one daughter, Emily and one son, Samuel Ethan, and Heather Setser Fisher of St. Albans has one daughter, Taylor.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, December 6 at Bible Baptist Church in Danville with Pastor Johnny Barker officiating. Burial will follow in Noah White Cemetery, Bim, WV.
Friends may visit two hours prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers you may give to the reconstruction of Calvary Baptist College in Palmares, Costa Rica. The earthquake of September 2012 severely damaged the school.
