Heaven gained another angel on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 as Kelly Canterbury (Golden) Hill lost her battle with diabetes. During her short lifetime of 43 years she touched the lives of many people. Kelly was born March 12, 1972 in Madison and was currently residing in Salisbury, NC.
Kelly grew up in Madison and graduated from Scott High School and Marshall University with a degree in social work. After working many years with child protective services she returned to her first love of teaching; initially as a teacher for Boone County Schools and then as a special education teacher at the Donald R. Kuhn Juvenile Detention Center. After moving to Salisbury, she continued her work in special education at Erwin Elementary. Kelly enjoyed working with children and her stories reflected the love she had for her students.
Kelly was preceded in death by her grandparents: Seigel Canterbury, Lorraine and Raymond Gillenwater of Madison and Arrowood Hill of Rock Creek; her aunt Donna Gillenwater of Clendenin and cousin Jamie Gillenwater of South Charleston.
Kelly leaves behind: her husband Gary Hill of Salisbury, daughter Georgia Golden of Boone, NC; son Jimmy Golden of Morgantown; stepsons Jacob Hill of Salisbury and Nicholas Golden of Morgantown; father Johnny (Teresa) Canterbury of Madison; mother Kathy (Kevin) Hill of Foster; brothers Dee (Kelli) Canterbury of Madison and Adam Canterbury of Barboursville; niece Lily Canterbury of Madison; stepsister Bridget (Greg) Foster and nephew Cole of Charleston; grandmothers Bertha Canterbury of Madison and Darlene Hill of Rock Creek and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral service will be 11:00am Saturday May 9, 2015 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville with Pastor Rick Swearengin of Madison United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Madison. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Friday at the funeral home.
