Kermit H. Bender

Kermit H. Bender of Big Ugly, passed away at his home on April 22, 2023 at the age of 79 following a long illness.

Kermit retired from coal mining in 1997 and was a member of the UMWA.  He was a member of Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church, Turtle Creek WV. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Page and Anne Bender of Foster, WV; sisters, Liddie Phillips of Chapmanville, and Louise Porter of West Hamlin; brothers, Edwin Bender of Big Ugly, Donald Bender of Prenter, Ronald Bender of Foster Maxwell (Mac) Bender of Foster, Page (Junior) Bender of Danville, and Bob Bender of Big Ugly; and his loving grandson, Tyler Bender of Big Ugly.

Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 32 years Sherry Jarrell Bender; his children, Kermit Lee (Shawnacy) Bender of Yawkey, WV, Doug (Sydney Manns) Bender of Alum Creek, daughter, Teresa Green, step daughter, Heather Workman of Warrenton, VA, and step-son, Jamie Cox of Jacksonville, Fl.; brothers, Vernon (Donna) Bender of Foster, Clarence  (Clara) Bender of Foster, WV; sisters in law, Jane Jarrell of Madison, Diana Bender of Chapmanville, Gloria Bender of Big Ugly and Billie M. Bender of Prenter; brothers in law, Ronald Porter of West Hamlin, WV, 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV with Rev. Tom Bias officiating.  Burial will follow in Memory Gardens, Madison, WV. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
