Kista “Kay” Cooke, 77, of Madison, WV was born March 23, 1937 and went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 12, 2014.
Kay graduated from Scott High School in 1955. After graduation Kay wed to Jim Cooke in 1954 at Van, WV. They made their life and raised their family in Madison and were blessed with 60 years together. She was an active member of Danville First Baptist Church. She was very proud of her family and enjoyed every moment she spent with them. She found great joy when she was able to visit with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She also found great pleasure in God’s creation, feeding the birds and squirrels daily.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Burne and Helen Ferrell; and her brothers, Harry Lee Ferrell and Eddie Ferrell.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband, James Cooke of Madison; sister, Francie Workman of Madison; daughters, Kitty (Artie) Barker of Madison and Kim Dickenson of Grand Junction, CO; grandsons, Shannon (Katy) Barker of Kingsport, TN and Patrick (Renate) Barker of Romney, WV; granddaughter, Jessica Sands and fiance’ Kyle Bishop of Grand Junction, CO; great-grandchildren, Noah and Bailey of Kingsport, TN and Kaylee of Grand Junction, CO; and a new great-grandbaby due next Spring; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank family and friends for your thoughts and prayers during this time.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with the Rev. Geoff Saunders and Bill Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Boone Memorial Park, Madison.
Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
