La Donna Jean Adkins, 53, of Barboursville, WV, a beautiful daughter, wife, and mother went to heavenly home Wednesday evening, September 18, 2013 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. She had been fighting a great fight of breast cancer that metastasized to her body. La Donna was born on March 16, 1960 to Hollis and Emma Jeffers Adkins of Barboursville, WV. She was their only daughter. La Donna was a member of the Green Valley Baptist Church. She spent all her life in West Virginia and loved the beauty of the state. She worked thirty one years for WV Division of Tourism until she got diagnosed with cancer and had to retire early. She will be greatly missed by her family and all the people that knew her. La Donna was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Ida Clay Jeffers, and Effie Woods Adkins; grandfathers, Elbert Jeffers, and Carmie Adkins.
In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband Earl Adkins and her only child Kira Adkins of Barboursville, WV. She loved animals, including her loyal cat companion Tee-Tee, and her two dogs Jill and Preston. La Donna enjoyed life to the fullest. She lived her life in the Lord and was looking forward to making heaven her home one day. She will be greatly missed by everyone who came in contact with her. She could light up a room with her smile and laugh. La Donna loved her family including the family she got when she married Earl. His brothers and sisters were also like hers. Her love will go on forever in the heart of her young daughter and her family. La Donna was a very tough woman physically and mentally to have gone through what she went through. She held on for a very long time and fought the great fight. As the Bible says in II Timothy 4:7, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. We will always remember and never forget her love. For one day we will take that journey to make heaven our home and she will be waiting for us.
There will be a 1:00 PM graveside service Saturday September 21, 2013 at Bowen Cemetery, Huntington, WV with Hern Adkins and Ernest Vance officiating. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 PM Friday at McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin, WV.
