Lanny Lewis Spurlock, 80 years of age, went to be with the Lord on July 21, 2022. He was the son of the late Bruce and Elvetta Spurlock from Drawdy, WV.
He graduated from Scott High School, Madison, WV. He was a veteran of the US Army, AFEM, Korea, and retired from the Mine Ventilation System at Rock Creek, WV.
Lanny was of Christian Faith Baptist. He was a member of Guiding Light Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and watching it grow, and sharing it with others. He loved the mountains, hunting, digging roots to sell, gathering ramps, berries, and black walnuts. He loved to share with others. He also loved softball and loved his dogs and cats.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roncie and Roxie Spurlock and Edward Bias and Ulla Bias Linville; his brothers, Denzil Earl Spurlock, Darrell Spurlock, Sherrill Spurlock, and Denver Spurlock; sisters-in-law Phyllis Spurlock of Madison, WV, Vivian Spurlock of Morrisvale, WV and Sue Spurlock of Morrisvale, WV; deceased brothers-in-law Reldo Miller of Lick Creek, WV and Cecil McKinney of Drawdy, WV.
He is survived by brothers, Eugene (Joyce) Spurlock of Orgas, WV, Harold (Linda) Spurlock of Huntington, WV, Wayne Spurlock of Morrisville, WV, Gilbert (Ruth) Spurlock of Wayne, Jackie Spurlock of Madison,WV, Jerry (Ruby) Spurlock of Salem, VA, and Ricky (Tami) Spurlock of Morrisvale, WV; sisters, Esta Miller of Lick Creek, WV, Nadine McKinney of Peytona, WV, Juanita (Harrison) Brown of Lexington, KY, Linda Clay of Madison, WV and Brenda (Ray) Cook of Madison, WV. Lanny is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and one sister-in-law, Oleta Spurlock of Danville, WV.
Funeral services will be officiated by Minister Eugene Spurlock Jr. at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV on Monday, July 25 at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Lanny will be honored with a military graveside service by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578 of Madison, WV at Family Gardens on Low Gap Road, Madison, WV following the service.
