Leona Smith Jenkins

Leona Smith Jenkins, 86, of Hamlin, WV passed away peacefully on February 16, 2024, after a long illness.  

She was born July 7, 1937 in the Sand Fork, Griffithsville, area of Lincoln County to Shannon and Dora Campbell Smith, and was one of twelve children.   A wife, homemaker and mother of three, Leona enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, cooking and baking, and attending church for much of her life.  She was a member of Harveys Creek Baptist Church and would often sing with the choir at churches across the state.  

She was preceded in death, husband Buster Paul Jenkins; son David Jenkins; son-in-law Eugene Stowers and many brothers and sisters.

Leona is survived by one sister, Mable Hudson of Ohio; daughter Sherry Stowers and son Scott Jenkins, both of Hamlin, WV; granddaughter, Amanda (Nicholas) Downs and great-granddaughter Olivia Downs, all of St. Albans; as well as many nieces and nephews.    

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024 at Handley Funeral Home, Hamlin, WV. The burial will follow in the Lovejoy Cemetery, Palermo, WV.  

A visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral.
