Linda “Kaye” Cook, 73, a resident of Blair, WV departed this life on July 14, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones.
Kaye was born mid-June of 1951 to the late Bobby and Audrey Nelson of Missouri Fork, WV. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Lee Cook whom she loved, and he loved her also; her brother Eddie Nelson; her mother and father-in-law Billie and Melvin Cook Sr.; Jerry’s aunt and uncle that raised him Sylvia and Clarence Browning; and her brother-in-law Hobert Conley whom she felt was her blood brother.
Those left to treasure and cherish her memory is her only son and daughter-in- law Brian and Sandy Cook; her two grandsons Jalen (Sarah) Cook and Noah (Sydney) Cook; her sisters Sandy Conley, Lou (Freddy) Terrall and Dee (Rodney) Thurmond; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunt, uncles and friends.
Kaye owned and operated a small gas station and store in Blair where people knew and loved to stop in not only for gas and groceries but for a good conversation and laugh. Kaye loved her home in Blair. She loved to play bingo and you would often see her with a coke, cigarette and a scratch off lottery ticket in hand. Most often you could drive by to see her and Jerry playing pool in their garage. Her favorite times were when family gathered. She often spoke of how she missed Sundays at her mommy and daddy’s where family would eat, laugh, play bingo and just enjoy being together. The good ol’ days.
Her most treasured people were Brian Lee, Jalen and Noah. A phone call was expected daily to hear her ask “does the boys play ball tonight?” She loved to watch them play. She also loved to take them fishing with their papaw at Rockhouse Lake. She will be greatly missed.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17 at Elkins Cemetery, Missouri Fork, Hewett, WV with visitation one hour prior.
Handley Funeral Home in Danville is assisting the family.
