Lionel Obra Ellis

Lionel Obra Ellis, 90, of Valdosta, GA passed away March 17, 2020 in Meridian MS.
Lionel was born February 19, 1930, in Hewett, West Virginia to the late Obra and Effie Ellis. He served 26 years as a medical technician in the US Air Force and retired in 1980 as a MSgt. He loved to play fastpitch softball and threw several no hitters over the years. Vacations for the family consisted of 2, two-week trips (winter and summer) back to West Virginia from wherever the family was stationed. These trips continued every year after he retired during which time he cherished riding ATVs with his childhood buddies and nephew. A longtime resident of Valdosta, Georgia he loved gardening and could “MacGyver” just about anything, fashioning many tools out of items most of us would have thrown away.
Lionel is survived by his wife of 67 years Louise; sons Mark (Missie) of Ashburn, Virginia and John (Molly) of Meridian, MS; daughter-in-law Melanie Ellis of Valdosta, GA; grandchildren Cory (Katy) of Washington,DC, Casey (Annie) of Ashburn, VA, Scott of Boston, MA and Jillian Fredenburg (Cory) of Newport News, VA; great-grandchild, Louis Ellis of Ashburn, VA; sisters Betty Baldwin of Lake City, FL, Nelda Craddock of Port Arthur, TX, and Joyce Noll of Chapmanville, WV; brother Steven (Lynda) of Marquette, MI. In addition to his parents, Lionel was preceded in death by his devoted son, Michael S. Ellis; brothers Leo, Jack and Stanley; sisters Nada Craddock, Norma Jean Craddock, Irene Carpenter and Neva Ellis.
Graveside service will 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21 at Memory Gardens, Madison, West Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Disabled American Veteran’s Emory P. Bass Memorial Chapter 14, PO Box 2923 Valdosta, GA 31605.
