Luther “Ed” Burns, 97, of Madison, WV passed away October 4, 2023 surrounded by loved ones, he was escorted by angels into the arms of God forever to be with the Lord and his family. Born on October 29, 1925 in Frog Alley, Barrett, WV to the late Raymond L. and Drusia B. Wallace Burns and later in life moving to Cazy, WV where he went to school at Cazy Grade School and later to Van High School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Emma F. Burns; brothers Paul, Harold, James, and Woodrow Burns; and sister Norma J. Burns Cabell.
He is survived by his loving children: daughter, Frances (Danny) Hager of Quinland; sons, Eddie L. (Opal) Burns of Uneeda, Rocky (Patricia) Burns of Madison, and Scotty D. Burns of Quinland; six grandchildren, Shane (Reneé) Hager of Julian, Casey (Kelly) Hager of Sod, Misty (Frankie) Cook of Foster, Kristin Burns of Quinland, Rocky (Carrie) Burns of Prosperity, SC, and Jennifer Ann Agosti of West Columbia, WV; 13 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Ed was much loved and will be missed by a surviving host of family and friends.
He was a World War II US Navy Veteran and after his stint in the military, he returned home to continue his lifelong career as a coal miner. In 1982 he proudly became a member of the Quinland Church of Christ.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV with ministers Tim Bailey and Mike Green officiating. Burial will follow at Family Gardens on Low Gap Rd., Madison, WV.
