Mabel Hill Ferrell, 101, of Manila, WV passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Logan Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness.
She was born January 11, 1915 at Manila, WV a daughter of the late Hubert and Julia Miller Hill. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Basil Ferrell; four brothers Clarence, Basil, Delmer and Elmer; two sisters Lena Lucas and Arizona Barker; and special nephews Michael H. Hill.
Mabel is survived by special family and friend “helpers” Marian June Willis, Terri and Donnie Chapman, Sheridan Hill, Allyn Sue and George Barker, Sidney and Patty Barker, Alice McClure and Lyle and Alice Adams. Survivors include several nephews and nieces whom she loved; and a host of friends and loved ones.
Mabel was a Christian, being baptized at the age of 12 and a longtime member of the Danville Church of Christ. Mabel read her Bible every day, was a dedicated wife and homemaker and loved genealogy. She was also an avid and accomplished gardener of beautiful vegetable and flower gardens, raising her last garden at the age of 97. Mabel was retired from Barker Dairy.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Handley Funeral Home, Danville with Minister Kenneth Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Hill Cemetery, Manila, WV. Pall bearers will be great nephews, Donnie Lee and Tyler Chapman, Michael Ferrell, James, Michael and Russell Hill. Honorary Pall Bearers are nephews, Jerry and Ralph Hill, Sidney and John Barker, Jimmy Willis, Donnie Chapman and Buddy Ferrell.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
