Mae Newsome

April 24, 1932 — July 10, 2020

On Friday, July 10, 2020, Mae Newsome, 88, of Wharton, WV went home to be with the Lord.

She was born April 24, 1932 to the late Orbin and Galvesta Johnson. Originally from Pikeville, KY. Mae and her husband Fred moved to Wharton in the early 1950’s. She was a wife and mother who dedicated her life to caring for her family. She and Fred were married for 68 years. She was a member of the Bim Freewill Baptist church.

In addition to her parents, Mae is pre-deceased by her sister, Emma Newsome and her brother Melvin Johnson.

She is survived by her husband, Fred Newsome, Sr.; brothers, Freddie Johnson and Charles Brahnam both of Bowling Green, KY; sisters, Pearlie Newsome of Virgie, KY, Mazzie Bates of Louisville, KY and Mollie Stone of Lexington, KY; sons, Fred (Janet) Newsome, Jr. of Madison, James E. Newsome of Lake Jackson, TX and Terry Lee (Teresa) Newsome of Quinland, WV; grandchildren, Eric (Kathy) Newosme, Chad (Karrie) Newsome, Jennea (Brandon) Mangum, Terah (Anthony) Maynard, Elijah (Carissa) Kinder, Hillary (Rob) Holden, , Tracie (Caspar) Harris, Allen Newsome, Preston Newsome, Thomas Brisky, Alex Brisky, Katherine Wallace; and great-grandchildren, Sara Newsome, Makayla Mangum, Austin Newsome, Jackson Newsome, Annabelle Wallace, Maddie Wallace, Nick Pullins, Becca Newsome, Marc Maynard, Haley Maynard, Allie Wallace, Noelle Holden, Emmett Holden, Lilly Holden, Wren Harris, Luke Kinder, and Jake Kinder.

Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 14 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV with Glen Jarvis officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Park, Danville.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Due to Covid-19 please observe the Governor’s mandate of a limit of 25 people inside the building at one time and everyone is required to wear a mask and to social distance.
