Malcolm Halstead, Jr., age 90, of Foster, WV passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018. He was born Feb.18, 1928 in Foster, WV to the late Malcolm and Lennie Cabell Halstead and grandson of the late Marshall Lee and Nancy Long Halstead and Marion and Chloe Dolin Cabell. He was also preceded in death by one son, Kevin Reed Halstead; one sister, Judy Halstead Crouch; and two brothers, Marion Lee Halstead and Arnett Richard “Dick” Halstead.
Junior is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth Walker Halstead; three sons, Barry Wayne Halstead, Malcolm William Halstead and Francis Craig Halstead(wife Edna). Malcolm Jr. was blessed with eight grandchildren, Michael Halstead, Cullen Halstead, Kevin Halsted, Dana Weekly, Melissa Cook, Sarah Halstead, Angie Baisden, and Christa Overstreet; and 19 great-grandchildren. Junior is also survived by sisters, Gloria McClure, Deloris Hughes, Nancy Bargo, Connie Halstead, and Karen Halstead Miller; and two brothers, Babe Halstead and Rex Halstead.
Malcolm Jr. was a Christian serving as a teacher and member of the Foster Church of Christ. Junior was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran serving in the Aleutian Islands with the Pacific Fleet Seabees. Junior worked 38 years in the WV coal mining industry, retiring in 1984. He was a member of UMWA. He loved mechanic work, gardening, and putting up hay with his neighbors and working with horses.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 15 at Foster Church of Christ with Nathaniel Dolin and Wendell Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Halstead/Cabell Cemetery, Foster.
