Marcelene Kerns

November 28, 1931 — May 11, 2019

Marcelene Kerns, 87, of Bob White, WV went home to the Lord on Saturday, May 11, 2019. She was born Nov. 28, 1931 at Cazy, WV and was the daughter of Ray B. (Hill) and Sibyle Kuhn Eskew. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, James Douglas "Doug" Kerns of Van; her loving husband of 59 years, James R. Kerns; infant grandson, Roger Ray Samples; brother & sister-in-law, Ray L. & Lorraine (Griffith) Eskew of Wolverine, MI; infant sister, Rama Loretta Eskew; and son-in-law, Roger Samples.
She was a member of the Cazy Freewill Baptist Church for almost 65 years, where she taught children's Sunday School class and sang with several different gospel groups. She had a beautiful alto voice and loved to sing for the Lord. She was a teachers-aid at the Wharton Elementary School and a 1949 graduate of Van High School, and a member of the Daniel Boone Auxiliary Post 5578 of Madison.
Marcelene never met a stranger, she greeted everyone with a smile and a kind word and a hug. She loved hugs. She was a wonderful example of a wife, mother, grandmother, Christian, friend, and neighbor.
She and James enjoyed raising gardens and canning green beans. She made blackberry jam to share with everyone. We have all been blessed with her famous fresh apple cakes and fried pies. Sundays were special to her, cooking for her family and all others that happened to stop by.
Those left to cherish her memory are: daughters, Diana & Junior Moore of Bim, WV, Karen Kerns & John Halcomb of Fort Springs, WV, daughter-in-law, Marie Kerns & Wendell Harper of Van, WV and neice, Debbie (Eskew) & Shannon Fitzpatrick of Wolverine, MI.
Grandchildren: Sheryl (Moore)& Jerry Beard of Bim, WV; Robert (Tater) & Amanda (Dickerson) Moore of Wharton, WV; Mark & Julie (Setser) Kerns of Gibsonia, PA; Stephanie (Samples) & Scott Lee of Haymarket, VA; Jamie & Stacey (Waller) Kerns of Gibsonia, PA; and Darren Davis of Fort Springs, WV.
