Marcia Kaye Hatfield

June 6, 1948 — November 1, 2017

Marcia Kaye (Ellis) Hatfield, 69, of Madison, WV, departed this life on November 1, 2017 after a courageous 17 month battle with leukemia. She was a 1966 graduate of Scott High School, a 1970 graduate of Marshall University (B.S.) and a 1972 graduate of West Virginia University (M.S.). Following her graduation from college, she returned to Madison where she taught in the Boone County school system before becoming a stay-at-home mom to raise her children. Marcia attended the Madison Baptist Church for over 40 years where she proudly served on the Hostess Committee.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles W. Ellis; her brother, Charles W. Ellis, Jr.; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Morris M. and Dorothy H. Hatfield; and her nephew, Donald J. McPherson, III.

She is survived by her husband, Harry M. “Burr” Hatfield; son, Matthew M. Hatfield, and his wife, Caroline; son, William H. Hatfield, and his wife, Candess, all of Madison; daughter, Amanda Hatfield Steinbicker, and her husband, Jason, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; mother, Kathleen S. “Kaye” Ellis, of Madison; and sister, Pamela K. “Pam” Ellis, and her husband, Steve, of Charleston. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, A. Jay Hatfield, and his wife, Marylin; brother-in-law, Jon H. Hatfield; sister-in-law, Brenda Ellis, all of Madison; and sister-in-law, Anne Hatfield Lilly, and her husband, Steve, of Bluefield, Virginia. She is further survived by five grandchildren, Hope Hatfield, Max Hatfield, Quinn Steinbicker, Jonah Steinbicker, and Jude Steinbicker.

The family would like to acknowledge the outpouring of love and kindness shown by all the wonderful friends whose lives Marcia touched. Words cannot express our gratitude and appreciation. Per Marcia’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Madison Baptist Church Food Pantry or the Boone County Community Foundation.

The family will receive friends at the Madison Baptist Church on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service celebrating Marcia’s life to follow at 3:00 p.m. Per Marcia’s request, she was cremated and her remains will be placed at Boone Memorial Park in Madison.
