Margaret Evelyn Vance

January 8, 1930 — July 3, 2015

“That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast.” Hebrews 6:18-l9a

Margaret Vance, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend departed this life on July 3, 2015 to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior and loved ones that have gone on before her. We can only imagine what her first glimpse of heaven was like and what a grand reunion it was in the early hours of this morning. Our hearts are broken but we know that someday we will be together again.

Mom was born on January 8, 1930 to the late Bernice and Lonnie Miller. Others preceding her in death were husband, James Ray Vance, Jr., son, Donald Ray Vance, grandson, Jeremiah Ray Vance, a sister Lillian Winters, brothers, William “Bill” Miller and Ray Miller.

Mom was a member of the Barrett Church of the Nazarene for 65 years where she served the Lord as Sunday School Teacher, Missionary Society President, Church Board Member, Choir Member, Bible School Director, Greeter and recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. Her life was spent serving the Lord and we are certain she has been rewarded for her diligence. The legacy she leaves behind will be our greatest treasure on this earth and a source of great comfort in the days ahead.

She was a perfect example of everything beautiful and pure. She was “the rock” as so many called her that gave our family great strength and held us together during the trials and tribulations of life. During her last days when we would gather to pray at her bedside it was her prayer that God lift her family up and hold it together while she transitioned to her heavenly home.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory: sisters; Mary “Nannie Jo” Hackney, Dr. Wanda Staley (Jim), brother; Walter “Sonny” Miller (Ceceila), sons; James “Jim” (Candy) Vance of Charleston, WV, Paul (Kay) Vance of Wharton, WV, Johnny (Vonda) Vance of Wharton, WV, Doug (Karen) Vance of Shelbyville, KY, Larry “Gomer” (Mindy) Vance of Wharton, WV and Mark Vance of Madison, daughters; Mary (Gene) Frame of Concord, NC, and Susan (Kevin) Gilliam of Madison and beloved pet Satch. She also leaves behind many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.

Throughout her struggle she never lost hope or faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is the goal of our family to continually strive to uphold her values and the integrity that she possessed.
Our family would like to thank each and every one of you that called, stopped by, or prayed for her during her illness. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 7th 2015, Handley Funeral Home, Danville, WV.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
