Marion Yvonne Leftwich, 74, of Sharples, WV, passed away March 11, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her father George Leftwich and her mother Annie Leftwich Ford; she was also preceded in death by her step-father James E. Ford Jr; and sister Georgiann.
Born June 18, 1950, Marion was a graduate of Sharples High School and Marshall University. She was a retired teacher of Sharples High School, Omar Grade School, Logan Middle School and Logan High School. Marion was a devoted Christian, she attended Shiloh Baptist Church and New Vision Missionary Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School and was a Sunday School Superintendent, Board Member of the Guyan Valley District, Executive Board Member of Zion Valley Association, youth choir director of Shiloh Baptist Church, member of Women’s Missionary Circle, member of the choir, and Mother of the Church of Shiloh Baptist Church and New Vision Missionary Baptist Church.
Marion is survived by her siblings James (Shirley) Leftwich of Houston, TX, Robert (Bobbie) Leftwich of Southfield, MI, Sylvester (Evalene) Leftwich of Huntington, WV, Willie (Marsha) Leftwich of Madison, WV, Emma Anthony (Gerald deceased) of Sharples, WV, Treasa (Temious) Allen of Wilmington, DE, James (Ernestine) Ford III of Davenport, Florida, Lewis (Rebecca) Ford of Foster, WV, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marion was a teacher in Logan County for many years. She loved her students and they loved her even more. Her selflessness, dedication, and hard work was admirable.
The family is particularly grateful to Marion's sister Emma Anthony and for her brother Willie Leftwich for laboring tirelessly for the commitment and for their compassion to ensure Marion was provided with the best care possible. All was done in pure love.
The family of Marion would like to thank Dr. Joggenpally and staff at WVU Thomas Hospital Cancer Institute and Emila Spencer of Dignity Hospice.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2025 at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV with Rev. Audie Murphy Sr. officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Boone Memorial Park, Madison, WV.
