Mary Helen Topping Baker, 73, of West Hamlin, WV, passed away at St. Mary's Medical Center March 22, 2024. "For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him." (I Thessalonians 4:14 KJV)
Mary was born January 19, 1951, in Ranger, Lincoln County, WV. Preceding her in death were her husband Rodney "Petsy" Allen Baker; parents Fred and Florence Topping; maternal grandparents Harvey Kenna and Mary Vance Duty; paternal grandparents John Medley and Martha Ellen Neace Topping; and brothers Roland Edward Topping, Billy Ray Topping, Kenna Medley Topping, and Fred "John" Topping.
Mrs. Baker attended Marshall University, graduating with a bachelor's degree and subsequently earning a master's degree plus 45. She was a teacher at Guyan Valley High School until her retirement and a member of Mt. Moriah United Baptist Church.
Mary is survived by daughter Kellena and her husband Adam Wright of Nashville, TN, and son Dane Allen Baker and his wife Kim and grandsons Kale Allen and Kase Allen of West Hamlin, WV. She is also survived by her brother Jeffrey Allen Topping of Barboursville, WV, and a sister Jennifer Hope Smith of St. Simons Island, GA.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 29, at Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, WV. McGhee-Handley Funeral Home West Hamlin, WV is assisting the Baker family. Friends may express their condolences at handleyfh.com.
