Mary Ellen McClure, 68, of Danville, WV passed away on February 17, 2019 at The Hubbard House Hospice Care Center. She was born in Wheeling, WV on November 11, 1950 to her late parents, Philip and Jean Hanlon.
In her early years, she was recognized for being the Valedictorian of Scott High School class of 1968. She then obtained her Bachelor’s Degree at West Virginia University and later obtained her Master’s Degree in Education from West Virginia State. She worked as a teacher for over 35 years in Boone County’s own Scott High School. She and her family are members of The Madison United Methodist Church.
She leaves behind her brother David Hanlon (Jan), her sister Barbra Rowley (William). She also leaves behind two loving daughters Melissa Dale (Jamie) and Polly Wheatley (Steven). She leaves behind five grandchildren, Jordan Wheatley, Tyler Griffith, Michael Wheatley, Gracie Griffith and Keaton Wheatley. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews, Caroline Larson, Chris Rowley, Zach Hanlon, Kelsey Hanlon, and her great nephews, Philip Stonestreet, and Alex Stonestreet. She also leaves behind many close friends.
She had a passion for animals and loved her two dogs, Puppy and Little Dog, more than anything. She will be remembered as a mother, grandmother, sister, friend, teacher and avid sports fan. She also loved to vacation in Myrtle Beach yearly with the family.
A celebration of her life and Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2019 at The Madison United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rick Swearengin officiating. Friends may call from noon until service time.
Her final wish, in lieu of flowers, is for everyone to bring dog treats and bones to the Memorial Service for Puppy and Little Dog.
