Mary Emily Phillips

Mary Emily Phillips was born on January 20th,1954, and was called home on November 11th, 2023 at 11 PM. She was praising the Lord and shouting as she left us here on this earth. She was a member of Greenview Baptist Church. Mary and her loving husband, SGT James Oral Phillips of Jeffrey, WV, were married for 26 years. She was blind and nearly lost her life when she was hit by a drunk driver in 1995. Mary cheated death most of her life to live to be 69 years old. In the last year, she has had many challenges with her health. She has now been awarded her place in heaven with family and friends that went on before her. 

Mary was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Ammond and Ruby Tabor of Jeffrey, WV; her father, Roy Maynor of Lincoln Co, WV; her sisters, Eloise Lester of Ocala, Florida; Nellie Smith of Jeffrey, WV and Linda "Sue" Daniels of Jeffrey, WV; her twin brothers, Roy Maynor of Mallory, WV, and Troy Maynor of Jeffrey, WV.  Mary was also preceded in death by one son, Ammond Lee McNeely of Hewett, WV.

Her surviving siblings are Vinnie Smith of Gordon, WV; Irvin Maynor of Jeffrey, W; Jean Gunnoe of Ramage WV; Kenny Tabor of Jeffrey WV, and Ruby Williams of Kentucky.  Mary is also survived by one son, Harold “Joe” McNeely of Hewett, WV; and one step grandson, Matthew Dillion.

Mary left a huge family of nieces and nephews to enjoy the memories she gave us. We will all miss her every day. Mary’s memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her. Every memory will be recalled with a funny story we have about Aunt Mary. The family would like to extend our gratitude to a community full of friends including all of our church families for their condolences and kindness at this time of loss. Mary left us all with a smile.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15th at Handley Funeral Home in Danville WV with Pastor Jeremy Ball officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens on Low Gap Road, Madison, WV. 

Visitation will begin at Noon and continue until service time at the funeral home.
