Maycel Harmon Collier

November 24, 1931 — March 8, 2018

Maycel Harmon Collier, age 86, formerly of Madison, WV was born November 24, 1931 in Van, WV and passed away March 8, 2018 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Tampa, Fl.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce Matthew Collier; her mother and father; two brothers; and four sisters.

Maycel is survived by her daughter Cary Collier Willis and son-in-law, Larry Willis of Tampa, FL; sister, Violet Casto of Charleston, WV; niece, Kathy Barrs of Panama City Beach, FL; three step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; plus many nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of Scott High School; attended nursing school in Huntington, WV; and went to the University of Miami, in Miami Florida. She worked for Eastern and Continental Airlines over 36 years, doing everything from flight attendant based in Miami to air cargo and managing city ticket offices in Atlanta. She also loved antiques and had several antique shops in and around Atlanta, GA, almost as long if not longer than her tenure with Eastern.

Maycel was an avid reader and loved seeking out deals on antiques. Even after she retired, she would go to estate sales and antique shops frequently with her daughter. She loved talking to people about antiques. She moved to Florida to be with her daughter in 2005 and enjoyed being back in the sunshine state. Maycel, her wisdom and humor, which could be quite entertaining, will be missed by many, especially her daughter.

Her daughter and son-in-law will be receiving friends at their home in Tampa, Fl. on Saturday, April 28, 2018 beginning at 3pm.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 in Boone Memorial Park, Madison, WV. Arrangements are being taken care of by Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Maycel’s name to Davis Island Youth Sailing Foundation at DIYSF 301 W Platt Ave #216 Tampa, FL 33606.
