Merle Jean (Sloan) Manns, 64 of Kenova, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, January 21, 2017, in St. Mary’s Medical Center.
She was born February 2, 1952, at Logan General Hospital in Logan, WV to Mary Madeline (Parsons) and Basil Cecil Sloan (both deceased). She attended Guyan Valley High School and graduated from Marshall University. She taught for 30 years in Lincoln County, WV and found a work family at Pleasant View Elementary and Guyan Valley JR and SR. High School that she treasured greatly.
She was preceded in death by her brothers and sister, James C. Sloan, Roy L. Sloan, Bobby D. Sloan, Linda L. Vinecourt and Elizabeth “Libby” Sloan has no known whereabouts at this time.
Survivors of her immediate family include the love of her life, husband, Thomas E. Manns, her two daughters, BethAnn Manns and Brittany Manns, a son and daughter in law, Lowell “Dennis” Sloan and Nancy Sloan, sister in law Paula K. Sloan and two grandchildren, Autumn Brooke Pratt and William “Lliam” Thomas Patrick. She also had many nieces, nephews and cousins that have survived her.
Special recognition to Jennifer Dean, Janet Gibson, Judy Mabe and all other family members that enriched her life.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan.24, 2017 McGhee Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin with Pastor Benny Dean and Joey Ferguson officiating. Interment will be at Sloan Cemetery, Pleasant View, Branchland, WV.
